Symbols in ANSIG refer to both variables
and lists. A variable cannot have the same
name as a list.
Symbols can be written and
read from a symbol file.
When symbols are read from file, a check is made whether they already
exist. If so, the old symbols are clobbered if
this switch is set to true, otherwise
an error occurs.
