GOLD is the result of a collaborative LINK project between
Sheffield
University,
Glaxo Wellcome and the
Cambridge Crystallographic
Data Centre (CCDC). Funding was provided by the Biotechnology and
Biological Sciences Research Council, the Department of Trade and Industry,
the Medical Research Council, Glaxo Wellcome Ltd and CCDC. The program was written by Dr Gareth Jones, in
the group of Professor Peter Willett at the Department of Information
Studies, University of Sheffield. Gareth was also primarily responsible for the
additional research work on the correlation of GOLD fitness scores with
activity and on the use of GOLD for docking combinatorial libraries.
Other contributions, particularly in validating and testing the program, were made at Wellcome (Bobby Glen), Glaxo Wellcome (Andrew Leach) and CCDC (Robin Taylor).
